Well, here we are into the “hottest” time of the year and the Elk Ladies are “unstoppable”, when it comes to baking in the heat and gathering all the unwanted white elephants for our Annual Rummage Sale. So many thanks to all who so generously gave of their time and helped in again making this another great big success. Many thanks to Charlyn Oinas for chairing and organizing the sale.

If you missed the ”Cowboys and Indians” dinner dance, it was a lot of fun and the food was great. Everyone enjoyed the Prescott Playboys band. It was hosted by our E.R., Rock Anderson.

Try not to miss the :Corn Fest: on August 14th. Music will be by B.C. Chips, plus great food and all the Young’s Farm corn you can eat. It will be hosted by Jim Trantham.

The next Board Meeting will be on August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Lodge.

The Out to Lunch will be on August 10th at Macayo’s Mexican Restaurant. It is located in the Gateway Mall, 3250 Gateway Blvd. Please be sure to call Marge Fontana at 775-5705 for your lunch reservations. The business meeting will follow at the Lodge at 1:00 p.m. Hope to see you all at our next meeting.

August 2004 Elks Tales

What a wonderful time everyone had at the 50’s & 60’s Dinner Dance. The burgers, fries and root beer floats were excellent, plus those delicious brownies baked by Judy Marley. Hats off to both Richard and Judy Marley, the perfect host and hostess, for doing such a great job.

I would like to thank all the Elks Ladies for the baking of cookies for the Flag Day Event at the VAMC. The ceremony was again very inspirational and educational ... and moving. Everyone enjoyed the cookies, ice cold punch and coffee.

It’s time again for our Annual Rummage and Bake Sale, so be sure to bring all your unwanted “White Elephants” in on Saturday the 10th of July from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon. Our Rummage and Bake Sale will be held on Sunday the 11th between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Our 2nd Vice president Charlyn Oinas, chairman of the sale, will be happy to help bring your items to the Lodge by calling her at 778-9555. We will be serving coffee, donuts and soft drinks for a small donation.

Our board meeting will be on Monday July 5th at 10:00 AM. Our regular monthly meeting will be July 13th; Out to Lunch will be at Stoneridge Golf and Country Club. Be sure to call Marge Fontana, on or before Friday the 9th, at 775-5705. Reservations are a MUST for this luncheon.

Mark your calendar for the “Cowboys and Indians” dinner-dance on July 17th, to be hosted by Rock Anderson, the Exalted Ruler. Get your tickets early for a great dinnerdance.

Hope to see all at our next meeting.

June 2004 Elks Tales

Many thanks to all the ladies who baked cookies for the “Youth Awards Ceremony”. What a great feeling is was to see so many of our youth receiving so many awards such as scholarships, savings bonds and trophies.

What a wonderfiul turnout we had for the Mothers Day Ceremony and brunch. I have been told the attendance was around 143. The ceremony itself was very moving with a memorable oration given by Waldo Bennier, a good job. And much thanks to the PER’s and Chef Michael

There will be no June board meeting and the regular meeting will be on June 8th.

Out to Lunch will be at 11:00 AM at the Red Lobster in Prescott. Please call Marge Fontana for reservations. Her phone number is 775-5705. The June meeting will be held by Claudia Biffi, as I will be in Maine. My brother is terminally ill and I will be spending time with him and his family.

Tickets are on sale for the “50’s & 60’s at the Hop” dinner dance. The theme is “the 50’s & 60’s.” Music will be by “Moondance” and will be hosted by Dick Marley. You won’t want to miss this one so buy your tickets early.

Be sure to remember and attend the “Flag Day Observance” on Sunday June 13th at VAMC Theater Building #15 (across the street from the main building flagpole.) The event begins at 2:00 PM sharp. If you have never attended this event you won’t want to miss it as it is very moving to see this patriotic performance.

We welcomed 5 new ladies into our auxiliary at our May meeting: Alicia Vorgetch, Pam Koshut, Erma Parish, Sue James and Elaine Andrichak. We are so happy to have you with us.

It’s time to save all your unused and unwanted “White Elephants” for our upcoming rummage sale. Please call Charlyn Oinas if you can’t hold onto them until Saturday July 10th. Our Rummage and Bake Sale” is on Sunday July 11th. Call Charlyn at 778-9555.

Looking forward to seeing you at the June Meeting

May 2004 Elks Tales

Many thanks to all the Elk Ladies for all your patience with me through our first meeting. As the proverbial saying goes: “Practice Makes Perfect.” (Seems like I’ve heard that before.)

Thanks again to Barbara Taylor for installing our treasurer Sharon Grisham and our Escort Trudy Bernard at our April meeting. Also a big thank you to Barbara Kettmann for filling in as our Escort while Trudy Bernard is recovering from knee surgery.

We have a very busy month in May, as our Youth Awards Day is Saturday May 8th at 2:00 PM. Many thanks to all the Elk Ladies for offering to bake cookies. The Lodge will also be having a Mother’s Day Brunch and Ceremony on May 9th at 10:00 AM, plus an Armed Forces Day Dinner Dance on May 22nd and a Memorial Day steak fry on May 31st. I also want to thank all the ladies who volunteered to bake cookies for the VAMC hospital this month.

Our “Out to Lunch” will be at 11:00 AM at Johnny Corina’s Italian Restaurant in Prescott Valley, 7305 Pav Way, directly across from Harkins Theaters. Please call Marge Fontana for reservations at 775-5705. The May board meeting will be on May 3rd at 10:00 AM at the Lodge.

I shall look forward to seeing you all at our May 11th luncheon and meeting.

It’s time to start saving for our “Rummage and Bake Sale” on July 11th. We need all your unwanted “White Elephants” to make this a big success.

Below is a proposed addition to our by-laws. A vote approving the changehas already been taken by our membership.

Duties of Officers
Section 11 Shall read:
“It shall be the duty of the flag Bearer to carry the American Flag at the beginning and conclusion of each Business Meeting and any other functions deemed necessary.” Section 11 shall become Section 12. “Flag Bearer will then be installed under Installation of Officers each new year.”

April 2004 Elks Tales

Well, here we are at the beginning of a new Elk Year, and I would like to take this opportunity yo mention the wonderful dedication and perserverance shown by our Elk Ladies in accomplishing the many goals undertaken during the past Elk Year.

It is my sincere belief that this same spirit shall continue to prevail during the upcoming year. Many thanks to our Oast President, Claudia Biffi and her officers for their hard work in helping to assure the success realized, as well as the efforts of the membership as a whole. We, the incoming officers, will strive to continue the excellent works performed by the Elks Ladies of Prescott Lodge #330 in years yet to come.

Our last meeting was such a happy one, with a wonderful and deliciously prepared luncheon for the Life Members and Past Presidents. Our thanks to the Luncheon Committee headed by Claudia Biffi and her great crew of ladies, CeCe Castro, Jackie Adams and Lucy Nikovics. Also a big thank you to Barbara Taylor for the beautiful corsages.

Our “Out To Lunch” in April will be at the Golden Gate Chinese restaurant, 620 E. Gurley Street in Prescott at 11:00 a.m. Please call Marge Fontana for reservations at 775-5705.

The April board meeting will be held on April 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Lodge. I would like all new and retired board and committee chairmen to attend if possible.
