Camp Update 11-1-04

by Jack Warter

 September 17th – 19th

Wes Hawkins, Hal Bowman, Jim Skinner and Terry (Turk) Birdno from Safford lodge finished installing the fence on the front side of the property except for one lower wire through the blackberry vines. They are scheduled to install the lower wire after the frost knocks the vines down. At the same time they plan on putting the staves in the fence.

October

Bob and Ivy Wills, Bugs and Loretta Lewis and Jerry and Janie Haynes continued weed eating, cutting and hauling brush and burning in the fire pit.
They also did a lot of raking and cleaning up plus more painting and general maintenance. The tractor was used to do more leveling.

October 8th and 9th

Tom Miller, Robbie Miller, Bill Miller cleaned up around the main building and under the trailer and stored everything in the lower metal building.

October 14th, 15th and 16th

Bob and Ivy Wills acted as camp hosts for a church group from Mesa.
Chris Wehrstein, an Eagle Scout from the Mesa/Buckhorn lodge, visited the camp on Saturday and is planning on doing an Eagle Scout project in March of 2005.

October 18th – 23rd

Bob and Ivy Wills, Jerry and Janie Hanes and Bugs and Loretta Lewis arrived at the camp to help get everything ready for the picnic.

E.J. and Syljuana Williams from Tucson East Lodge wired for a switch and lights in the generator room. E.J. removed all of the old conduit in the shower rooms and performed other electrical maintenance work.

Rick Snow and his group from Tucson East Lodge rebuilt the steps on cabin #2.

October 29th, 30th and 31st

Andrew Haywood, an Eagle Scout from Mesa Troop 853 arrived at the camp with his troop and counselors to perform several Eagle Scout Projects. They replaced all the nails on the main building roof with self tapping screws and repaired roof leaks on several cabins. They cut and burned a lot of brush that was located above where the old barn was located and stacked the wood at the fire pit. They also cleaned out the storage trailer so it could be moved.

In the next several weeks we are planning on winterizing the camp to protect lines from freezing. We will leave some water in the storage tanks because we plan on doing some more project work in November.

If I have left some items out of this update please let me know and I will make the corrections.

Jack
